Luxury Goods Show to Open
Update: 1/17/2008 7:09:00 AM Source: Shenzhen Daily

An estimated 10,000 millionaires from South China will attend the second Shenzhen World's Most Exclusive Luxury Show, also known as Top Show, at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center from Jan. 18 to 20.

About 200 luxury goods from nearly 60 top international brands, including Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Breguet, Glashutte, Hastens and Dux, will be on display. The exhibits will range from sports cars and yachts to furniture and embroidery, according to a press release issued by Top Show organizers.

The exhibition will feature six limited-edition sports cars, including an Enzo Ferrari which is one of only 399 in the world and a Porsche Carrera GT which is only one of three in China.

Some 150 Ferrari car owners from Guangdong Province will attend the opening ceremony of the Shenzhen branch of Tiger Club China, a luxury car owners' association, another highlight of the show.

Other luxurious items on display will include a 1.5-million-yuan (US$205,479) bottle of Hennessy cognac named Mathusalem, a 1-million-yuan Hastens bed and a 10-million-yuan embroidery work featuring the Mona Lisa. "This show attaches more importance to the quality of life and art of life, rather than just showing off luxury goods," said Sheng Lei, curator of the show.

"Shenzhen is a young city with a short history of less than 30 years, and it is much more easier for people in Shenzhen to accept new things, such as luxury goods, most of which are from Western countries," said Sheng. "Shenzhen is an economic powerhouse in China and has gathered lots of electronics, toy and furniture factory owners, who have sufficient purchasing power. Shenzhen is also next to Hong Kong and Macao, and most people here are fashionable. These are the reasons why we choose to hold Top Show in Shenzhen for a second consecutive year."

Sheng estimated that 400 million yuan worth of goods would be sold at this year's event, twice the value of goods sold last year.

On the first two days, the show will be open only to VIP guests invited by the organizers. On the last day, the show will be open to the public, with each ticket costing 150 yuan.

Last year Top Show was held in Shenzhen for the first time, attracting 12,000 wealthy people in South China.
