Changdi (ChangTi) a region along the south side of the Pearl River and near the exotic Shamian Island, was once a flourishing zone of the city and converges dozens of traditional brand shops, hotels and cinemas, and European style buildings. Despite Guangzhou's business center transferring to downtown Tianhe District, the venerable cultural and commercial region of Changdi will unveil its charm once again after a government approved redecoration.

Starting from Haiyin Bridge to Renming Bridge, two important pivots on the river, Yuexiu District is redecorating the 6 kilometer long Yanjiang Road, aiming at rejuvenating this area. Based on the original structures, the face-lift project has been separated into two parts with the Haizhu Bridge in the middle acting as the divide. Classic Lingnan styles featuring 19th century and early 20th century architecture, such as the Custom House and Ta Yin Lou building, are to be in a light gray color, as well as modern metropolitan style in grayish yellow color.

It is estimated that the redecorating project will cost 47 million RMB (6.88 million USD) and will be completed in June 2010.
