Cantonese Exporters: No Merry Christmas
Christmas product manufacturers in Guangdong may face a tough holiday season this year as exports of Christmas products have fallen 46 percent year-on-year to about $280 million from the beginning of the year, chinanews.com reported today.
Christmas products exported to the US fell nearly 20 percent year-on-year to about $130 million and shipments to the EU have declined 5 percent year-on-year to $65 million so far, according to the province's Huangpu Customs.
Exports in July, usually the peak exporting season, fell 10 percent year-on-year to $120 million, according to Customs data.
Guangdong is China's major Christmas product manufacturing center, accounting for almost 60 percent of China's total exports in the sector, chinanews.com said.
